Classic Cars of the 1940s – The “Fat Body” Era
The classic cars of the 1940s are often referred to by hot rodders and collectors alike as cars of the “Fat Body Era”.
Rounded fenders and body lines that appeared inflated typified automobile design during the decade.
Like they are today, convertibles were very popular back in the ’40s, and are highly sought after by collectors.
Here are a few of our favorite “Fat Body” classic cars from the 1940s.
1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster
Powered by a 90 hp, 216.5 ci six-cylinder OHV engine and a three-speed manual transmission, the 1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster was Chevy’s top trim level model in 1947.
It offered a special “country club” package as a dealer-installed option, a kit that wrapped most of the body in real wood from the front fenders to the back bumper.
This rarely-seen and exceptionally elegant option package makes this car a highly-prized collectible.
Both the Fleetmaster Country Club Coupe with it’s “Woody-like” appearance and the Fleetmaster Sport Coupe are highly sought-after classic cars of the 1940s.
